C\u2019est \u00e0 son retour en Alabama, qu\u2019elle embaucha quelqu&rsquo;un capable de mettre au point un dispositif \u00e0 commande manuelle pour nettoyer un pare-brise et demanda \u00e0 une entreprise locale de produire un prototype. Elle obtint un brevet de 17 ans (jusqu\u2019en 1920) pour cet essuie-glace. Son dispositif \u00e9tait constitu\u00e9 d&rsquo;un levier \u00e0 l&rsquo;int\u00e9rieur du v\u00e9hicule qui contr\u00f4lait une lame de caoutchouc \u00e0 l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur du pare-brise. Le levier \u00e9tait actionn\u00e9 pour amener le bras \u00e0 ressort \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer sur le pare-brise. Un contrepoids \u00e9tait utilis\u00e9 pour assurer le contact entre la glace et la vitre. M\u00eame si des dispositifs similaires avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9s, c\u2019est celui de <strong>Mary Anderson<\/strong> qui fut le premier \u00e0 avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 efficace. C\u2019est en 1905 que <strong>Mary Anderson<\/strong> tente de vendre son dispositif \u00e0 une entreprise canadienne mais sans succ\u00e8s, consid\u00e9rant que la valeur commerciale de ce dispositif d\u2019essuie-glace ne justifiait pas une telle S\u2019en ai suivi une bataille juridique d\u2019une dizaine d\u2019ann\u00e9e avant que Robert Kearns obtienne gain de cause. Ce dernier per\u00e7u un d\u00e9dommagement de 10,1 millions de dollars de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Ford.
